Crane Training in Alberta and Saskatchewan

Light Duty Crane Safety provides on-site crane training in Alberta and Saskatchewan for employers using light-duty cranes, picker trucks, carry deck cranes, spider cranes, mini crawler cranes, and mechanic service-body cranes.

Our crane safety training programs include classroom instruction, written knowledge assessment, basic practical evaluation, and training documentation to support the employer’s safety and due-diligence records.

Final operator authorization, supervision, site-specific familiarization, and determination of worker competency remain the responsibility of the employer.

Our Crane Safety Training Programs

Knuckle Boom / Picker Truck Crane Safety Training

On-site training for folding-boom articulated cranes commonly used on picker trucks, service trucks, delivery trucks, and industrial maintenance vehicles.

Training may include crane setup, stabilizer/outrigger use, load chart awareness, operating radius, stability, controls, daily checks, hand signals, safe operating limits, and basic practical operation.

This program does not provide rigging certification, lift-planning certification, engineering review, or employer competency determination.

Carry Deck Crane Safety Training

Training for Broderson-type and similar industrial carry deck cranes, including IC-20, IC-35, IC-80, Shuttlelift, and comparable models.

Training may include pre-use inspection, machine setup, deck load awareness, radius and capacity chart use, travel hazards, site conditions, stability, controls, and basic practical operation.

Spider Crane / Mini Crawler Crane Safety Training

Training for compact crawler and spider cranes commonly used in glazing, HVAC, industrial, mechanical, and specialty-access lifting environments.

Training may include machine setup, outrigger/stabilizer positioning, ground conditions, load chart awareness, remote-control use, travel limitations, exclusion zones, and basic practical operation.

Mechanic Service-Body Crane Safety Training

Training for corner-mount, service-body, mechanics-truck, and truck-mounted service cranes used in maintenance, repair, field service, and equipment support work.

Training may include pre-use checks, crane setup, truck stability, load chart or capacity information, winch and hook awareness, operating radius, control use, and basic practical operation.

What Employers Receive

After the training day, the employer receives documentation that may include:

  • Attendance record
  • Written knowledge assessment
  • Basic practical evaluation record
  • Certificate of completion
  • Wallet card, where applicable

These documents support the employer’s due-diligence records. They do not, by themselves, certify legal competency or replace the employer’s duty to authorize, supervise, evaluate, and manage operators under applicable provincial OHS requirements, manufacturer instructions, and site-specific procedures.

Important Training Limitation

A certificate of completion confirms that the participant attended the training and completed the required written and/or practical evaluation components of the program.

It does not mean that Light Duty Crane Safety has certified the worker as competent for every crane, every job site, every lift, every employer, or every operating condition.

The employer remains responsible for determining whether the worker is competent and authorized to operate the specific crane for the assigned work.
